Trauma and the body

Trauma and chronic stress often live in the body as patterns of tension, numbness, hypervigilance, or shutdown. In somatic therapy we gently explore these patterns with curiosity and care. By slowing down and noticing sensations, emotions, and internal parts, the nervous system can gradually move out of survival states and into greater regulation, flexibility, and connection.

Who I work with

I work with individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, dissociation, relationship challenges, creative blocks, and questions of identity and meaning. Many of the people I work with are highly sensitive, neurodivergent, or deeply reflective individuals who are seeking therapy that goes beyond traditional talk therapy and includes the wisdom of the body.

My approach

My approach integrates somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), attachment-informed therapy, and depth psychology. Sessions may include exploring bodily sensations, emotions, imagery, parts of the self, or relational patterns. The work unfolds collaboratively and at a pace that supports safety and trust.

Inclusivity

I aim to offer a therapeutic space that is affirming of diverse identities and experiences. This includes LGBTQIA+ identities, neurodiversity, nontraditional relationship structures, and spiritual or existential exploration. Therapy can be a place where all aspects of your experience are welcomed and explored with curiosity rather than judgment.

*If you are struggling with something or want to explore something that is not on this list—I may still want to work with you! I have a lot of clients with issues that are not listed above but we still do great work together. This list is more of what I consider my areas of specialties.

I tend to not work with clients with more severe substance use issues, unmanaged bi-polar, psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. This therapy is better suited for folx that are not in active crisis(i.e. active homelessness, active domestic violence, active suicidal ideations). The reason for this is because I am one person alone in private practice and these issues are better treated by a agency that specializes in these unique types of issues and has a team of people to support the client.

*Therapy at Somatic Psychotherapy Michigan will not be a good fit for you if you do not want to do somatic therapy or Internal Family Systems/parts work—I weave these two modalities into all the work I do. To learn more about somatic and IFS work check out my blog.

*No physical contact or nudity will occur during sex therapy.

*I do not work with out of control sexual behaviors such as compulsive or illegal behaviors at this time. Those with sex or porn ‘addiction’ challenges are welcome as long as they are not crossing people’s boundaries or doing things against the law. I do not offer mandated therapy for probation.

I work with people experiencing trauma, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and existential questions. My approach combines somatic therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and depth-oriented psychotherapy to help clients reconnect with their bodies and develop a deeper sense of safety and meaning. Many people seek therapy because something in their life no longer feels sustainable. You may feel overwhelmed by anxiety, stuck in patterns that repeat in relationships, disconnected from your body, or carrying the impact of trauma. I offer somatic psychotherapy in Detroit and online across Michigan, working with both the emotional and physical aspects of experience so that healing can happen not only through insight but through shifts in the nervous system and embodied awareness.
